Heaven on Earth

School Truth & Transformation / Speakers Pieter Heres, Don Rogers, Vernon Byrd, Cyndy Straton, Recky Jolson & Thema Black.

This week was pretty fun because it was short (only 3 days) and we had a mix of teaching from sustainable technology, water, and sanitation technology, farming with a biblical worldview, artificial intelligence to microbiology and microbial fuel cell technology,  mudwatt, a field trip to Waimea to Thema's, our classmate's farm to learn about her passion for sheep. We also had the fair of our school "Truth and Transformation", prepare our National Building Project and a book report! On Thursday "Thanksgiven" and a prayer walk with Loren Cunningham!

It was pretty crazy but Gods presence and his favor were so strong in all times with us. Humanly speaking all these activities might seem overwhelming, but in reality, we saw constantly heaven on earth taking place in every experience we shared together. Awesome!

What stood out to me, is Thema Black, my classmate's life. Every Saturday she jumps in her truck and drives to Waimea that is one hour far from the Ywam base, all by herself. She has more than 100 sheep in a field. She counts only with one guy to help her feed them, move them around from one field to another, take care of the baby sheep, mark them, heal them, go and look after them when they get lost...

Even though its paradise where her farm and sheep are, It's a lot of work. I really admire her persistence for this calling, so committed to her passion. Somebody that knows about investment v/s profits would say this job is not worthy for the amount of work v/s the economic benefit.

Exactly that is what impacts me! First of all, I never saw a woman doing this work. Second, the love and determination that she has for her sheep despite the fact that it is difficult and there are great challenges every week, is really wonderful. Her heart and beautiful attitude minister my heart. It makes me think in Gods passion for us. That even though we are a mess and make so many problems, He is always happy to take care of us, to guide us through the path of life with his cane. To feed us when we are hungry, to save us from the danger, and heal our wounds because of rebellion, or evil.

Sheep are basically helpless creatures who cannot survive long without a shepherd, upon whose care they are totally dependent. They do not have good eyesight, nor do they hear well. They are very slow animals who cannot escape predators; they have no camouflage and no weapons for defense such as claws, sharp hooves, or powerful jaws. They are easily frightened and become easily confused. In fact, they have been known to plunge blindly off a cliff following one after another.

Shepherds, like Thema, face incredible dangers in caring for their sheep, putting their own lives at risk by battling who threatens the flock. Shepherds are willing to lay down their lives for the sheep.

My conclusion is that if a woman can sacrifice herself in this unimaginable way for her animals, how much more God is after us, and won't let us down. The sheep recognized Thema's voice in the midst of the field with wild wind and many times heavy rain. With how much more persistence we should listen and recognize Gods voice in our hearts because He doesn't get tired of speaking Life to us. He is with us, pastoring our lives all the time. His unfailing love is permanent, it's a sure thing. Without Him, we can't do much successfully!
