The Clock is Ticking, We Claim For Reformation

It is said that reality overcomes fiction, and clearly, this applies to the worldwide scandal of the cover-up of pedophile priests around the world. Eight years ago, 3 Chilean professionals broke the silence about the psychological and sexual abuse they suffered when they were underage by a diocesan priest.
"When you kill someone's soul, and I can tell you this as a doctor, you start killing the body. The children who were mistreated will live 20 years less," said James Hamilton, abused by a Chilean Priest.

There are currently 178 cases of victims of sexual abuse committed by Chilean priests, consecrated and lay Catholics. Between 1995 and 2017 the faithful of the Catholic Church fell from 75% to 45%, according to a Latin American study. The scandal that is causing this reality worldwide is really unfortunate for all believers and non-believers.

The Pope apologized for the serious mistakes he made recently in the handling of cases of sexual abuse, where he had defended firmly the bishops accused of covering up abuse for the lack of evidence. "The culture of abuse and concealment is incompatible with the logic of the Gospel," Pope Francisco said in a recent letter to the Church.

He accused the Roman Catholic Church in Chile hierarchy of destroying evidence of sexual crimes, of pressuring Church lawyers to reduce the accusations and of "gross negligence" in the protection of minors before pedophile priests.

He believes that the renewal in the ecclesial hierarchy is of an urgent character. But he explains this won't bring a real change eighter. Only the intervention of the Holy Spirit can bring a transformation in longterm.

Pope Francisco is determined not to defend the indefensible.

"If the Catholic Church does not realize that sexual abuse, especially child abuse, is an abuse of power in asymmetric contexts and still considers it a sexual problem, it will not change anything at all. All this is makeup and ends up being just theater." José Murillo, victim abused by a Chilean Priest.

The symptom of this pedophilia behavior is much more complex and deeper than we think. Many agree that it is time for a reform. Mainly because nowhere in the Holy Scriptures it is modeled that Priests should not marry. But instead, if it is clear that they should lead a holy life.

How can we dream of a renewed Church where people can feel safe if there is no attachment to the word of Holy Scriptures that is infallible for those who put their principles in practice?

The Pope is open to discuss the possibility of marrying priests in places where there is a shortage of clergy. But the meeting to discuss that possibility won't take place until October 2019.

Many Catholics are looking for action now.
Pedophile priests should be arrested and punished like any other pedophile. Any person who covers or, by negligence, permits pedophilia in the church must be prosecuted. A priest who has sexually abused someone should never be allowed to return to the leadership of the church.

The Pope manifests himself in a letter that in the present moment is one of listening and discernment to reach the roots of the atrocities that have taken place to find solutions to the scandal of abuse. "Address the problem in its complexity. He and other Catholic leaders say they don't have much time to repair public trust in the church."The clock is ticking, Catholics have lost patience and civil society has lost confidence."

As a close sister in Christ, I think it is time now once for all take serious measures because with what authority we can teach about holiness, and the purpose of sex in marriage context if something of this magnitude continues going on. It doesn't make sense, It´s unacceptable. The damage that this has caused is irreparable. We believe that it is time for a reform and restitution for the faithful.
